What is a ‘Fitness Lifestyle’? And why you should follow one?
Does fitness excite you? Or do you want to feel and look fit? Let us start with the fact that you own nothing except your own body. So, what should be the behavior towards your only property? The answer is obvious, take care of it, pamper it, prepare it and keep it healthy and fit. But the fact of the matter is, health consciousness among people is very low. This article will help you to adapt to a ‘Fitness Lifestyle’ in less time. The points are carved in a way that it helps almost everyone, all you need is the determination.
The definition of fitness lifestyle by livestrong.com: “A healthy lifestyle leaves you fit, energetic and at reduced risk for disease, based on the choices you make about your daily habits. Good nutrition, daily exercise, and adequate sleep are the foundations for continuing good health.”
The following points will help you in the direction of having a healthy lifestyle along with the answer to the ‘Why should you follow one?’ part:
1. What you are putting in your body is the most important thing
Well, this the easiest part of ‘Healthy lifestyle’ thing. Eating good and healthy food is the key. Your body’s immune, metabolism and proper growth depends on the proper supply of proteins, vitamins, carbs, good fat, minerals etc. Divide your food intake into 4–5 chunks and spread it over the day, this will keep you from gaining fat and all your food intake will be utilized. Dairy products, vegetables, fruits and lean meats should be part of your food intake. Drink water in short intervals, check for the amount of water your body needs on daily basis. Strict no to junk food and cold drinks. If you consume cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol etc. on regular basis, stop it, this will bring no good to you.
2. Gym is not strictly required, but exercising is
The problem is in the common perception of fitness, people relate fitness to the gym, weight training, and chiseled body, and this is not totally true. Exercise ensure that all your body parts are working good, being regularly trained and utilized and are in good shape. If your daily routine barely involves any warm up or stretching, then this will create problems in later part of your life, you know what I’m talking about. The simplest way to add basic exercises in your daily routine to keep you active and fit is here; drink water as you wake up, stretch your body (you’ll find basic stretching tutorials on internet. Tip: start stretching from your upper body parts and gradually move down), do some push-ups, squat, go for a run or walk. You don’t need to do this on every day of the week, do it four days in a week or whatever suits you. Change the intensity according to your priorities, maybe much more exercise on weekends and cut short on them during working days.
3. Sleep well
C’mon, we are already good it at, right? Make sure that you go to sleep and wake up at right time. Sleep is such a gift to us, our body grow when we are asleep, body temperature lowers, heartbeat lowers and every part is in rest, recharging for another adventurous day. Sleep for at least 6hrs a day. Monitor your sleep cycles, oversleeping is also not good.
4. Reduce stress and add cheerful activities in your routine
Don’t be a machine. Period. Keep your routine flexible to add up the activities that make you feel at peace. This need not be a daily basis but may be in your weekly routine. For me, it’s like, I keep aside my weekend evenings reserved as ‘me-time’.
5. Understand your body, it’s requirements and be conscious
What suits someone else may not suit you. Observe how your body reacts in different weathers, with different food you eat and to the exercises you do. Don’t simply copy someone else’s routine, make one for yourself instead. Be conscious about what you are eating, drinking and doing that might affect your body in a negative way. That’s it.
6. Transform in 8 magical weeks
This is my ‘8 magical weeks’ rule. If you want to do something for a long time or want to start something new, do it for 8 weeks. 8 weeks is the time you need to adapt to anything new.
7. You’d stand out in crowd and well, confidence
Now watch out for 8 weeks to over with this ‘Fitness Lifestyle’. You’d see the change, you’d feel motivated and will definitely look and feel better from an unfit person. Best of luck!
